In 2002, we fell in love with Alaska and purchased property near Fairbanks. Our Alaska log home was built in 2003 by Bill Kisken of Log Weavers here in Fairbanks. Bill is an artist, who uses the hand scribed Swedish cope system. Notice how tightly the logs fit at the ends, this is very diffucult to achieve. We retired in 2013, and moved our residence to Alaska.

Congratulations Aliy and Allen

Congratulations to Aliy Zirkle on a fine finish in the 2008 Iditarod! The photo shows Aliy at the finish line in Nome with her lead dog ChaCha showing the way. The photo is from her blog which is maintained by her sister Kaz. Between their blog and the new Iditarod GPS system, my students were able to track her exact movements during the race. We could actually watch her pass other teams on the course or pull into a checkpoint!

Also congratulations to Aliy's husband Allen Moore. Allen had a tough race: His dogs got sick and needed time to recover, then Allen got sick. He kept going longer than most people would, but he wasn't recovering. The medics on the course finally ordered him to quit. Allen showed tremendous courage in this race. We look forward to hearing their stories.
