In 2002, we fell in love with Alaska and purchased property near Fairbanks. Our Alaska log home was built in 2003 by Bill Kisken of Log Weavers here in Fairbanks. Bill is an artist, who uses the hand scribed Swedish cope system. Notice how tightly the logs fit at the ends, this is very diffucult to achieve. We retired in 2013, and moved our residence to Alaska.

A trip to Wrangell-St. Elias

We have just returned from a trip to Iceberg Lake in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. In order access this area we had to fly in on a bush plane. These are a very important part of life in Alaska. In fact one former governor of Alaska was a bush pilot.

We flew into the park on Wrangell Mountain Air. http://www.wrangellmountainair.com/ It was our first experience on a bush plane.

The fires in Alaska have begun to subside. After a very hectic few days last week when we were worried about the Boundry Fire moving into our area, we finally got some rain. The fires have slowed down, and the fire fighters have been able to set fire lines where they cut a clear space where the fire cannot burn.
