In 2002, we fell in love with Alaska and purchased property near Fairbanks. Our Alaska log home was built in 2003 by Bill Kisken of Log Weavers here in Fairbanks. Bill is an artist, who uses the hand scribed Swedish cope system. Notice how tightly the logs fit at the ends, this is very diffucult to achieve. We retired in 2013, and moved our residence to Alaska.

Received this email from my sister:
This is a very complicated issue. What TBone didn't tell you is
that Texas came close to a brown out, because the wind suddenly
stopped blowing. You then have to have a back up ready immediately
which is difficult. And then there is the transmission line problem.
There aren't any lines where these wind farms need to be. It
is very expensive and there are issues with landowners
and environmentalists. It takes years in the courts. (And not likely
with BO's appointments) The latest problem is with the turbines killing
bats.
There just isn't that much natural gas .They are discovering more, but
they estimated that we have a 15 year supply not too long ago. The KN pickups
have run on gas for years out here, but they have a huge tank in the back.
Joe gets a weekly newsletter and the utilities have been warning about
all these problems, but they can't get anyone's attention.
Nuclear was our obvious answer years ago. That was one of the first
times that the enviro's were successful in controlling people by turning
it into an emotional issue. So that is off the table. No matter what,
we are in a mess. It takes 10 years at least to get any plant built, and
because of the political uncertainty, most everything was put on hold.
With BO, you can expect taxes that will be passed on, and probably
caps that will make a lot of politicians rich. You have to follow the
money in all of this.
That wind map was neat. Did you notice the bright red over us. I want
to move to a blue area.
