- Stonewall in the Valley: Thomas J. Stonewall Jackson's Shenandoah Valley Campaign, Spring 1862 by Robert G. Tanner. My wife's great-great grandfather, Asbury Payne, fought up and down the Shenandoah Valley with Stonewall. Asbury was finally captured at the Bloody Angle and sent to a Yankee prison in Elmira.
