According to Wikipedia, truthiness was invented by comedian Stephen Colbert in 2005. Truthiness is something you "know" with no regard to the facts. It was named Word of the Year for 2005 by the American Dialect Society and for 2006 by Merriam-Webster.
Now a book by Farhad Manjoo, True Enough: Learning to Live in a Post-Fact Society builds on that word. Manjoo posits the theory that blogs and wikis are creating truths of their own without reference to facts: “new technologies are promoting the cultural ascendancy of belief over fact.” This doesn't stop Manjoo from maintaining his own blog. Still his thesis has some credibility and is worth exploring. Thanks to Will Richardson Weblogg-ed for this info.
