Geoff Ward the author of the site Norway: War Resistance Peace was kind enough to send me this photo of the headstone of a 17 year old British soldier of the Leicestershire Regiment, who was killed in fighting near Lillehamer. These young, under-equiped British soldiers showed tremendous courage in defense of Norway. See the War diaries of Lt. J.P.H.Guy.The soldiers in Kvam were with The Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Their job was to slow the German advance. Major-General John Deedes , who died in 2005 at the age of 91, was in that battle. As the Germans bombed the village, Deeds crossed open ground swept by artillery and machine-gun fire to rally men who had lost their officers and become disorganised. At Kvam, they managed to hold up the German advance for two days. Deeds was awarded the Norwegian Military Cross.
